The Practical Semester in the Jena Model of Teacher Education
The practical semester is a compulsory core element of the Jena Model of Teacher Education and is usually completed in the 5th or 6th semester at a school in Thuringia. It is also possible to complete the practical semester in other federal states or even outside of Germany.
It aims
- to further develop academic and practical professional skills in the field of teaching
- to reflect academically on pedagogical action
- to get to know the professional field in all its facets
- to achieve basic confidence in dealing with pupils
- to develop learning diagnosis and counselling skills
- to develop a professional ethical concept for teaching and non-teaching situations
- to acquire teaching skills with regard to subject-specific knowledge, pedagogical work and initiative in non-teaching areas
- to increase motivation to continue studying
